Australian Institute of Landscape Architects Western Australia Awards

The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects Western Australia Awards were held on the 20 July 2018, showcasing the best of the best landscape projects for the year.  It was great to see that three of the winning projects have been showcased through HAbD case studies including Optus Stadium, Newman Town Square and Rio Tinto Naturescape, evidence that creating healthy spaces is a clear trend in the best landscape architecture projects in WA.

Optus Stadium was deservedly the clear winner of the night, taking home the AILA WA Medal, along with awards for Parks and Open Space Award of Excellence, Play Spaces Award of Excellence and the Urban Design Award of Excellence.   The judges recognised the team for integrating the public and active transport systems into the landscape to provide ‘practical, attractive and informative journeys throughout the precinct’.

Newman Town Square received the Landscape Architecture Award for civic landscape. The project was awarded the win for an outcome that ‘provides an opportunity for community to come together, socialise, celebrate their unique culture and develop a greater sense of pride’.  Naturescape received the Landscape Architecture Award for Play Spaces and was celebrated a s a space that provides learning experiences through diverse play opportunities and creates a magical sense of place.  All winners of the state awards will be considered in the National Awards, held on the Gold Coast Thursday 11 October as part of the 2018 International Festival of Landscape Architecture.
